GIS/Mapping ServicesEdgecombe County has several ways to acquire mapping information online.
By clicking above or in the left navigation bar on any page of the Edgecombe County Tax Website, "Online Tax Info" takes you to the interactive Property Lookup Application called "WebPAAS" which allows users to search for a property by the Parcel Number, Owner's Name, Address, or Deed Reference. The search returns matches to your search parameter. Select one of the results and view detailed information about the property including appraisal information, tax bills, and property record cards. Once you have selected a parcel, there is also an option for "Parcel Map" in the left navigation bar which will pull up a new window (make sure your popup blocker is disabled) with the property map zoomed in to that location and the parcel highlighted. Ownership information appears on the left. By using the "Background Layers" pull-down, you can also add aerial photography. The application uses a very basic WebMapping Interface ideal for the novice user. While you can zoom in or out, as well as get information on other properties, the "Print Format" function is designed to give you a map of the original parcel only, without much flexibility. The only options for printing depend on whether or not you have aerial photography displayed or not. Zooming out on the map will not allow you to show a larger area around the parcel in the final printed version. A work-around for this is to select print from the browser window, printing what is shown there as opposed to using the "Print Format" feature.
Currently in testing is a free-standing WebMapping Application named "GeoBlocks Web". This link will take you to a Map Interface which bypasses the need to go through the WebPAAS Tax System. In this interface, you have similar search capabilities by name, address, deed, or parcel, but you also have the ability to zoom into a particular area of interest and find properties without knowing any of the ownership information. This interface also has a larger number of map layers to select from, as well as some advanced tools such as Street Search, which helps to find an address which may not be listed in the tax data. Other advanced features scheduled to be available include the ability to get information on all of the parcels adjoining one in question or all parcels within a radius of some point you select. This application is currently in testing, and the ownership data will not be as up-to-date as that found in the Online Tax Info application. Although Edgecombe County now does all parcel mapping in a digital environment, occasionally there is still a need for old-style tax maps. In this section, accessed by clicking above, you can download or view full tax maps reduced to ledger (11x17) size in Adobe PDF format. Lastly, for the most experienced GIS Users who have their own GIS software and are simply looking for data to use in that application, we have our most frequenly requested datasets available in ESRI Shapefile format, compressed into zip files for faster downloads. Edgecombe County does not use ESRI (ArcGIS, ArcView, ArcInfo, etc.) for our GIS applications, but as it is the most common format for data requests, it is what we are making available. Edgecombe County staff will not be able to assist you with any questions you may have about how to use shapefiles or any of the programs which can use them. The files are posted with the intent that they will be used by trained GIS users. The data is made available without charge for download. Any special data requests may involve a charge for setup time and media costs.
